The Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board (SAB) have a comprehensive multi-agency training programme for partner agencies operating in Gateshead. The training is free and can be booked using the link below.
Multi-Agency Safeguarding Training Booking
The booking platform is managed by the Gateshead Safeguarding Children's Partnership. However, all SAB training is available to book by scrolling to the bottom of the page. Our courses are listed below for awareness:

Safeguarding Adults Training Resources
There are two national competency frameworks available to support organisations to determine minimum training requirements with respect to Safeguarding Adults. These are guides and do not replace contractual arrangements between commissioners and providers. It is acknowledged that some employers may require certain staff groups to be trained to a higher level.

Voluntary, Community, Social Enterprise (VCSE) Training
The SAB and GCSP have developed a bespoke training programme for representatives of the VCSE sector to increase knowledge and understanding of both adults and children's safeguarding. Training can be booked online.
The training places a stronger focus on curiosity, signs of abuse and neglect, consent and how to make referrals or signpost individuals appropriately. It also gives information, advice and guidance on the specific roles and responsibilities of voluntary organisations and their trustees in relation to safeguarding.
We have arranged the following sessions - which will be delivered across Gateshead and online - to support easier access to the sessions:

Our face to face sessions compliments the provision of safeguarding training provided by Connected Voice which is delivered online via e-learning. Connected Voice are an independent charity which supports the local charity and voluntary sector, they offer a variety of training programmes and offer a range of e-learning modules specifically around safeguarding adults and children. .
Connected Voice offers a number of resources to help you get your safeguarding right:
- The Elements - eLearning portal has two courses - adult and child that can be accessed at any time for free.
- A free online safeguarding course that will help you to: (i) Know how to recognise and report abuse or harm (ii) Understand the importance of responding to safeguarding concerns (iii) Feel able to begin making safeguarding part of your day-to-day activities. - If you're a VCSE organisation based in Gateshead, we can review your safeguarding policies free of charge, suggesting any updates and improvements. More details are available on the Connected Voice website.
- For any VCSE organisation, we can write a new safeguarding policy, specifically tailored to your needs. This is a charged-for service, priced from £216 + VAT. per policy. More details are available on the Connected Voice website.
Me-Learning
Working with the eLearning training platform Me-Learning, anyone in Gateshead has the ability to access training from work or home at a time that suits you.
To complete any of our free e-learning courses, self-register and enrol using the online form (opens new window).
Courses are delivered in easily manageable 'chunks' and can be paused and completed in your own time. These are intended to ensure that as many people as possible in Gateshead who wish to, have access to safeguarding training, and complement our wider offer for our safeguarding partners.
In addition to the standard course offer, this platform also hosts 6 short online courses developed by Gateshead. These are:

Free External Agency Training
Recovery Connections is a substance use, lived-experience organisation based at Jackson Street and Leam Lane. The service delivers ongoing individual and group support for substance use.
The Recovery Ally Training session - recommended in the Deaths of Despair Report - guides practitioners through four key elements of supporting a person in recovery:
- the unique and individual journey a person in recovery experiences
- the language surrounding addiction and recovery, and how to use this positively
- a model of recovery that can inform recovery-focused conversations
- active listening strategies to hear and support others without judgement
