Hoarding
As part of Hoarding Awareness Week 2025, the Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board and the Gateshead Safeguarding Children's Partnership have produced a 10-minute training video for practitioners. The video aims to raise awareness of the complex issues of hoarding and self-neglect, challenge stigma, and empower practitioners to be able to recognise and respond appropriately to those in need.
There are opportunities to pause the video at different points to complete reflection tasks, which explore:
- specific safeguarding risks associated with hoarding and neglect
- common barriers to effective interventions
- some examples of good practice in overcoming barriers
These tasks can be completed individually or within team briefings. See the resource pack for more details of how to perform these tasks.
Feedback on this training can be provided by scanning the QR code at the end of the video or by filling in a feedback form (opens new window) Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Lived Experience
Keith's story; a personal and touching film about hoarding The Birmingham Safeguarding Adults Board has produced a film to raise awareness of hoarding and to guide professionals on what kinds of interventions seem to work the best so that the people affected (both the person who hoards and other people whose lives this impacts upon) get the support that they need.
Calling on Keith - Keith talks about his new life now.
'Of All the Things' is a 2D animated short film, partly supported by the BFI NETWORK through National Lottery funding, that delves into the complexities of a mother-daughter relationship amidst the challenges of hoarding disorder. The film is due to be released in May 2025.
