Safeguarding Spotlight: Hoarding and Self-Neglect (Hoarding Awareness Week)

As part of Hoarding Awareness Week 2025, the Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board and the Gateshead Safeguarding Children's Partnership have produced a 10-minute training video for practitioners. The video aims to raise awareness of the complex issues of hoarding and self-neglect, challenge stigma, and empower practitioners to be able to recognise and respond appropriately to those in need.
There are opportunities to pause the video at different points to complete reflection tasks, which explore:
- specific safeguarding risks associated with hoarding and neglect
- common barriers to effective interventions
- some examples of good practice in overcoming barriers
These tasks can be completed individually or within team briefings. See the resource pack for more details of how to perform these tasks.
Feedback on this training can be provided by scanning the QR code at the end of the video - your feedback is greatly appreciated.
